I want to get my own portable gps. I have the choice of getting a Ipad and buy foreflight on that. Or just get a garmin 496 with weather updates. Id like to go with the Ipad because it would be cheaper, But will it perform like the 496 would?

The IPAD on the other hand is a great unit as well.

If the decision were mine for an owned aircraft, I'd mount the 496, or 696.

To get in and out of different aircraft and have something useful when I'm not flying, I like the IPAD. Just remember you need the 3G IPAD to get the chip that has the onboard GPS

Yeah thats what I thought. I just wanted to make sure there wasent another thing I had to buy alone with the ipad. I saw the ipad was approved for cockpit use as a secondary source. If I was a airline pilot I would have the paper charts with me but I would be using the ipad. The ifly700 Is a cool concept to dave. I like how it uses teh charts right on the screen. And when you make a flight plan you can drag your flight path or "follow me" line however you want it. I was looking at them too but I dont like that it is made from a company I never heard. Will they be aorund in 2 years to back there product up? That would be the big thing holding me back from buying that.
