I have always thought I understood the instruction, but never really knew the meaning of "Closed Traffic" I was about to post this question for ATC to answer for us, when I realized...
This is what the Pilot / Controller Glossary is for in the back of your FAR/AIM book. So I looked it up.
CLOSED TRAFFIC - Successive operations involving takeoffs and landings or low approaches where the traffic does not exit the traffic pattern.
So there it is - maybe you already knew this, but quite franly I have to admit I did not know the true meaning of one of the simplest instructions we are given, "Make Left Closed Traffic"
